About Japanese festival on May5"Tangonozekku"(Boys festival)

Let me tell you about Japanese festival"Tangonozekku(The boy's festival)"

The day was originally called Tango no Sekku,
and was celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th moon in the lunar calendar or Chinese calendar.
After Japan's switch to the Gregorian calendar, the date was moved to May 5.
The festival is still celebrated in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau as the Duanwu Festival or Tuen Ng Festival (Cantonese), in Korea as the Dano Festival, and Vietnam as the Tết Đoan Ngọ on the traditional lunar calendar date.
It was originally for boys but has since been changed to include both boys and girls.
Sekku means a season's festival (there are five sekku per year).
Tango no Sekku marks the beginning of summer or the rainy season.
Tan means "edge" or "first" and go means "noon".
Although it is not known precisely when this day started to be celebrated,
it was probably during the reign of the Empress Suiko (593–628 A.D.).
In Japan, Tango no Sekku was assigned to the fifth day of the fifth month after the Nara period.
Until recently, Tango no Sekku was known as Boys' Day (also known as Feast of Banners)
while Girls' Day (Hinamatsuri) was celebrated on March 3.
In 1948, the government decreed this day to be a national holiday to celebrate the happiness of all children and to express gratitude toward mothers.
It was renamed Kodomo no Hi.
Before this day, families raise the carp-shaped koinobori flags (carp because of the Chinese legend that a carp that swims upstream becomes a dragon, and the way the flags blow in the wind looks like they are swimming), one for each boy (or child), display a Kintarō doll usually riding on a large carp, and the traditional Japanese military helmet, kabuto. Kintarō and the kabuto are symbols of a strong and healthy boy.
Kintarō is the childhood name of Sakata no Kintoki who was a hero in the Heian period,
a subordinate samurai of Minamoto no Raikou, having been famous for his strength
when he was a child.
It is said that Kintarō rode a bear, instead of a horse,
and played with animals in the mountains when he was a young boy.
Mochi rice cakes wrapped in kashiwa (oak) leaves—kashiwa-mochi (just like regular mochi, but is also filled with red beans jam) and chimaki (a kind of "sweet rice paste", wrapped in an iris or bamboo leaf)—are traditionally served on this day.

I have one older brother so like Hinamatsuri,

I have Kabuto at home too!!:)

Shobuyu
And we enter furo which shobu is in!!:)
About shobuyu
The Japanese steep the leaves in hot water and enjoy the fragrant Shobu-yu (iris hot-bath) because of the traditional belief that the iris bath is a miraculous prophylactic against all kinds of sickness.
Many public bath houses, particularly in the districts where the people are less affected
by western influence and are accustomed to taking hot baths in the morning,
open their doors early in the morning on May 4 and 5.

There are lot of things to do in this day too!!:)

About my impression on NZ

Before I came here,
I heard from my one older students who were in NZ last year and my teachers about NZ!!

First I want to tell you about that what am I heard from them:)
  • There are a lot of animals!!I heard that there are many sheep than people in NZ!!
  • There are a lot of nature!!
  • The shower time is very short!!Don't use a bathtub!!
  • Don't write "center".Write like this "centre".
  • There are not much moisture!!So if you don't move or exercising, you'll don't be weat!!
  • Back peace is not good meaning.(Turn this photo back!)
  • There are big houses and schools!!

And so on...

That things are right!!:)

I really like NZ's nature,air,sky and stars!!
I was really surprised by that
there are lot of green around me,air is clear and very clear beautiful sky
and at night I could see amazing the number of stars!!X)
In Japan,I can't see such a beautiful view!!
Moreover I lived in Tokyo which is the capital of Japan.
There are a lot of people, car, very high buildings, not clear air, many lights.....
So there are not beautiful nature, air, sky and stars as much as in NZ!!
In addition, there are few stars at night...
That's because even if at night, there are many lights are turning on...

So I like NZ very much!!:)

And I have one more impression on NZ!!
It is that people in NZ are really kind!!!!!!:)
I was very surprised that
many people don't hesitae to speak to other different country's people like me!!:)
And they always smile at me!!:)
When on my way home, the man was taking care of his garden and he noticed me.
If I'm in Japan, almost everyone ignore me because we don't know each other.
But the man speak to me,"hello"!!
I was so surprised then I reply to say"hello"late!!haha
I really like NZ's people!!!:)

I'm happy to come to NZ!!
I want to say big thank you to my parents!!
And teachers, relatives, friends and people whi are cheering me on...:)
So I want to improve my English skills and I want to see their smiley face when I go home!!:)

I'll do my best:)

About Ohanami (flower viewing)

Let me teach about Ohanami(flower viewing)!!

Look this!!
There are many people!!
This festival is called "hanami" in Japan!!:)

Let me explain about "hanami":)

Hanami ( "flower viewing") is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers,
"flower" in this case almost always meaning
cherry blossoms ("sakura") or (less often) plum blossoms ("ume").
From the end of March to early May, sakura bloom all over Japan,
and around the first of February on the island of Okinawa.
The blossom forecast (sakura-zensen, literally cherry blossom front) is announced each year
by the weather bureau, and is watched carefully by those planning hanami
as the blossoms only last a week or two.
In modern-day Japan, hanami mostly consists of having an outdoor party beneath
the sakura during daytime or at night.
In some contexts the Sino-Japanese term kan'ō (view-cherry) is used instead,
particularly for festivals. Hanami at night is called yozakura (literally night sakura).
In many places such as Ueno Park temporary paper lanterns are hung for the purpose of yozakura.
On the island of Okinawa, decorative electric lanterns are hung in the trees for evening enjoyment,
such as on the trees ascending Mt. Yae, near Motobu Town, or at the Nakijin Castle.
A more ancient form of hanami also exists in Japan,
which is enjoying the plum blossoms ( ume) instead,
which is narrowly referred to as umemi (plum-viewing).
This kind of hanami is popular among older people,
because they are more calm than the sakura parties,
which usually involve younger people and can sometimes be very crowded and noisy.

It's really beautiful event!!
And we can see beautiful cherry blossoms!!<3

Now in Japan is winnter!!
Also this year is snowing a lot!!
Before I came to NZ(about a week ago from I left Japan),
it snowed a lot!!:)
It is unusual...:(
So I think that this year's "hanami"season will be late than before!!

 When cherryblossoms were came out,
everyone say that spring came!!:)
It will be warmer and warmer!!
It's good news for us!!

Hinamatsuri occurs on March 3 and is an occasion
to pray for young girls' display dolls for the Doll's festival and dedicate to them
peach blossoms, rice cake cubes, special colored and
dimamond-shaped rice cakes,white sake,and other items.
The origin of hinamatsuri is an ancient Chinese practice in which the sin of the body and misfortune
are transferred to a doll and washed away by setting the doll in a river to drift away.
When this practice spread to Japan,it was linked to girl's playing with dolls and,
in the Edo Period(1603-1867),was developed into the hinamatsuri.

So in Japan,if there is girl in one familiy,
almost everyfamily have this dolls which is called hinaninngyou at home!!:)
